Erikah Haavie is the marketing and communications coordinator for the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health and the Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities.

Prior to joining the institute staff, Erikah planned professional development seminars for Furman’s Education Department and the Upstate Schools Consortium, which was chosen as a finalist for the WhatWorksSC Award in 2022, recognizing excellence in programs serving public education.

She also previously served as the director of community relations at The Center for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck, N.Y. and worked as a journalist for Gannett newspapers in New York and South Carolina where she earned six state and national awards for her coverage of education and government issues.

Erikah is an active volunteer with her church. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude with her B.A. in communication studies from Furman.
