David L. Hauser was chairman and chief executive officer of FairPoint Communications, Inc. and prior to that role, was Chief Financial Officer for Duke Energy. He retired as a certified purchasing manager and certified public accountant but serves on both Corporate and Civic Boards.

Mr. Hauser joined FairPoint Communications as chairman and CEO in July 2009 and left that position in August 2010. In that role, he was responsible for the management of all aspects of the corporation's activities commensurate with the best interests of the stockholders, customers, employees, and the communities which it served.

Prior to his role at FairPoint, he retired as group executive and chief financial officer from Duke Energy. He began his 35-year career with Duke when he joined Duke Power in 1973. During his first 20 years with the company, Hauser served in various accounting positions, including controller, before assuming the role of vice president of procurement services and materials. He was named senior vice president of global asset development in 1997 and in June 1998 was named senior vice president and treasurer. Mr. Hauser served as acting chief financial officer from November 2003 until February 2004 when he was named group vice president and chief financial officer and then group executive and chief financial officer in April 2006.

Mr. Hauser earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from Furman University and received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He completed the Executive Program of Professional Management Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In addition, Mr. Hauser is chairman of the board of directors for EnPro Industries, Inc. and a director of OGE Energy Corporation. Previously, he served as a board member of the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and North Carolina Zoological Society. He is also a retired member of board of trustees of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the Business Advisory Council for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In August 2009, Mr. Hauser was named CFO of the Year by the Charlotte Business Journal for his work at Duke Energy.
