Danny Tang is currently the Associate Vice President for Technology and Chief Information Officer at Furman University. He is responsible for all IT services at the university and seeks to ensure that Furman has and continues to have the technology it needs to be successful.

Danny has extensive experience in leading IT transformations and providing IT services in support of the academic mission across multiple higher education institutions.

He worked 12 years at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, most of that time at the Grainger College of Engineering. He was the inaugural hire in the merger of all IT at the College in 2010. During this time of rapid and intense change, Danny helped to build a dynamic, high performing IT organization for a world-renowned, premier engineering College. He progressed into successive roles in this organization, becoming Assistant Director in 2015.

In 2016 Danny joined Engineering at Iowa as its Chief Technology Officer during a similar time of profound change and upheaval. As mandated by the state Board of Regents, the University CIO lead a reorganization of all IT at Iowa into a unified IT ecosystem called OneIT. In response to OneIT, Danny led the change in culture and IT service delivery within Engineering at Iowa to succeed within this larger ecosystem.

Drawing from his prior experiences, Danny led the transformation of IT at Engineering into a unit that exemplifies the “ideal” academic IT service provider in OneIT, with an emphasis on ownership, high-trust relationships, high-touch collaborations, responsiveness, flexibility, and adaptability. Under his leadership, IT at Engineering made key strategic investments in the support for the emergent application of technologies such as IoT, data analytics and deep learning, and artificial Intelligence while aggressively working with the central IT organization for various commodity services.

Afterward, Danny transitioned to a new role within Iowa as Senior Director for Research Services. He led the division of the University's IT organization responsible for research IT services at scale, such as high- performance computing, data analytics, facilitation, specialized systems, and application support.

Danny then served as the Chief Information Officer for the Missouri University of Science and Technology, during a period of transformative change. Powered by an unprecedented investment of $300 million by late alum, Fred Kummer. Missouri S&T aspired to the next tier of higher education, with "North Star" goals of dramatically increased enrollment, reaching Carnegie R1 classification, and the founding of the new Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development. Danny's own "North Star" goal was to ensure Missouri S&T has the IT services and resources it needs to meet its grand ambitions.
