Shows run Friday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium. The production is open to the public. Tickets are $10-$20. Furman students are admitted free with valid ID.<\/p>\n<p>Set over the course of two sweltering summer days on a New York City tenement stoop, the opera portrays the lives, struggles and aspirations of immigrant working-class families living side by side in an urban community.<\/p>\n<p>Often described as a \u201cBroadway opera,\u201d &#8220;Street Scene&#8221; uniquely blends operatic technique with jazz, blues and American popular song, creating a vivid and distinctly American musical language. The work is based on Elmer Rice\u2019s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1929 play of the same name, with lyrics by Langston Hughes.
