See if heart rate monitoring by Apple Watch lives up to its accuracy claims.\u00a0And, of course, feast on mapo tofu before checking out a few more presentations and wrapping up the day with charcuterie and live music.<\/p>\n<p>Sound like an outstanding day?\u00a0It&#8217;s all possible at the 14th annual <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/furman-engaged\/\">Furman Engaged.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The daylong celebration will be held April 12 at locations across campus. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to check out the immersive internships, musical and theatrical works, service learning, study away, research and other engaged learning experiences available to Furman students.\u00a0View\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/virtual.oxfordabstracts.com\/#\/event\/2586\/program\"><strong>a full listing<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0of presentations.<\/p>\n<p>To prepare for the day&#8217;s events, here are seven things to know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Why do we have Furman Engaged?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to give students the opportunity to complete their high-impact experience by presenting their work in a public forum and reflecting on what they&#8217;ve learned,<\/li>\n<li>to educate first and second-year students about the kinds of engaged learning opportunities available to them and<\/li>\n<li>to celebrate the engaged learning accomplishments of our students and their faculty and staff mentors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0<\/strong><b>Will there be any special dining options?<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a Furman Engaged tradition. Bring an appetite for new experiences to the Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center. The Furman University International Student Association\u00a0will be holding an international food festival for all students, staff, faculty and guests\u00a0from\u00a011:30am-1 p.m. It will feature<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">6 countries or regions<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Foods such as baklava, birria tacos, pupusas, mapo tofu, dumplings and chicken tikka masala<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Vegetarian and vegan options\n<p><div id=\"attachment_54751\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54751\" class=\"size-full wp-image-54751 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/news.furman.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/20190409_FE_InternationalFoodFest.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 700px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 700\/394;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-54751\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students enjoy the international food festival during Furman Engaged 2019.<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Will there still be class on April 12?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, all classes are suspended during Furman Engaged so that students, faculty and staff are free to attend presentations, moderate sessions and participate in the day&#8217;s festivities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Will any employers be on campus for Furman Engaged? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, lots of them, in fact. Nearly two-dozen representatives, including seven alumni, from 15 companies and organizations, will be browsing students\u2019 posters and attending presentations. These are just a few of them: Alarm.com,\u00a0ATS Logistics Services Inc.,\u00a0BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina,\u00a0BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC,\u00a0Cohesion Phenomics,\u00a0Orchard Hill Camp,\u00a0Project Hope Foundation, and\u00a0United Way of the Piedmont &#8211; AmeriCorps VISTA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Will there be contests and prizes?<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Absolutely. Enter the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/furman.app.box.com\/s\/c37o3bfhj7md6qapg1gpbz1o99honpf1\">Purple Shoes Contest<\/a><\/strong> to win a pair of Furman purple Nikes. There will also be a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/furman-engaged\/essay-contest\/\">Reflection Contest<\/a><\/strong> with the chance to win $150.\u00a0Prizes will be raffled off at Timmons Arena 3:30-5:30.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>6. <\/strong><strong>Will any of the sessions be live-streamed?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, browse <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/virtual.oxfordabstracts.com\/#\/event\/2586\/program\">the schedule of presentations<\/a><\/strong> for any titles that appear in blue blocks, signifying remote viewing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.
