Furman University Women’s Golf team member Anna Morgan ’23 has received one of only 72 invitations to play at the third Augusta National Women’s Amateur. She is the fourth Lady Paladin to compete in the event and joins 2019 honorees Alice Chen ’18, Haylee Harford ’19, and Natalie Srinivasan ’19. Having been previously named a “potential prospect” for the event, Morgan said she was “counting down the days” till the second week in January when invitations were mailed out.<\/p>\n

“I wasn’t necessarily shocked,” she told reporter Eric Boynton, “but I’m not sure it’s quite settled in yet just because it’s something I’ve been working towards since they first announced they were going to have the women’s tournament at Augusta. It became my No. 1 goal to get there as soon as possible, and now to have that dream as a reality is really incredible” added Morgan, a politics and international affairs major at Furman.<\/p>\n

If she makes the cut after the first two rounds at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, she’ll play the April 2 final round at Augusta National, televised from noon to 3 p.m. on NBC.<\/p>\n

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Morgan was named the 2021 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year after leading the Paladins with a 73.6 stroke average over 18 rounds last season. She qualified as an individual for the NCAA Simpsonville Regional, where she tied for 16th. Morgan posted a 71.6 stroke average after 12 rounds during the fall of 2021. She captured individual medalist honors at the 2021 Lady Paladin Invitational, carding rounds of 65-67-71=203 for the seven-stroke victory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
