{"id":9609,"date":"2021-10-28T17:21:55","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T17:21:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2021\/11\/02\/furman-featured-in-the-princeton-review-guide-to-green-colleges\/"},"modified":"2022-09-07T15:44:16","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T19:44:16","slug":"furman-featured-in-the-princeton-review-guide-to-green-colleges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furman-featured-in-the-princeton-review-guide-to-green-colleges\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman featured in The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Furman University is one of the nation&#8217;s most environmentally responsible colleges, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.princetonreview.com\/\">The Princeton Review<\/a><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The education services company features Furman in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.princetonreview.com\/green-guide\">The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges: 2022 Edition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Princeton Review chose the 420 schools in the guide based on its survey of administrators at 835 colleges in 2020-21 about their institutions\u2019 commitments to the environment and sustainability.\u00a0Colleges that earned a Green Rating score of 80 or higher were chosen for the Guide to Green Colleges. Furman earned a score of 88 out of 99.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurman students engage in a wide variety of sustainability research and co-curricular activities, including working at the on-campus, organic-practice Furman Farm,\u201d states The Princeton Review\u2019s profile of Furman. \u201cFurman was a charter signatory to the American College &amp; University Presidents&#8217; Climate Commitment, and the Board of Trustees approved a sustainability master plan for the university, setting a goal of carbon neutrality by 2026. One would be remiss not to mention Furman&#8217;s claim to the first LEED-certified building in South Carolina, Hipp Hall, just another testament to the university&#8217;s sterling r\u00e9sum\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noted in Furman\u2019s profile is the university&#8217;s\u00a0condensed work week option for some employees, indoor and secure bike storage, shower facilities and lockers for bicycle commuters, public greenhouse gas inventory plan, and that 27% of its food budget is spent on local\/organic food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur inclusion in Princeton Review\u2019s Guide to Green Colleges is a testament to Furman\u2019s longstanding commitment to sustainability across our curriculum, operations, and campus and community engagement,\u201d said Weston\u00a0Dripps, executive director of The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities and a professor of earth, environmental, and sustainability sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud of our accomplishments to date, and forever strive to improve our sustainability performance, initiatives and opportunities for our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This fall, for the third time in a row, Furman earned a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.furman.edu\/2021\/09\/10\/furmans-green-goals-gain-gold-from-stars\/\">Sustainable Tracking, Assessment and Rating System Gold rating<\/a> from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, ranking among the top three baccalaureate schools in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Furman University is one of the nation&#8217;s most environmentally responsible colleges, according to The Princeton Review\u00ae.
