A report by Angelia Davis of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenvilleonline.com\/story\/news\/local\/greenville\/2021\/10\/14\/greenville-area-churches-faith-groups-building-affordable-homes\/8091953002\/\">The Greenville News<\/a><\/strong> cites statistics from a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.furman.edu\/2019\/10\/24\/neighborhood-change-in-greenville-study-highlights-impact-of-gentrification-changing-demographics\/\">2019 multi-disciplinary study by Furman University and commissioned by United Way<\/a>. Combining qualitative and quantitative metrics, the study revealed that real median income in Greenville declined 5.3%, while rent costs soared 24% from 1990-2016. The study also highlighted how, as Greenville grows, poverty and gentrification follow suit.
