Harris \u201991, professor of mathematics, will deliver the address at Furman\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/commencement\/summer-commencement-schedule\/\">Summer Commencement ceremony<\/a> scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m. in Charles E. Daniel Memorial Chapel.<\/p>\n<p>The university will award approximately 50 Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Liberal Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees. Harris \u201991, professor of mathematics and faculty director for the Cothran Center for Vocational Reflection.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Harris, a winner of Furman\u2019s Meritorious Teaching Award, is co-author of the textbook \u201cCombinatorics and Graph Theory\u201d and works with colleagues and students on research projects in graph theory and sports analytics.<\/p>\n<p>He is also the faculty director for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/cothran-center-vocational-reflection\/\">Cothran Center for Vocational Reflection<\/a>. Founded in 2001, the Cothran Center works to further Furman\u2019s core vision to prepare individuals for lives of purpose. The center provides vocational resources for students, staff, alumni and community members to explore their authentic purpose and calling.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree at Furman, Harris received graduate degrees from Emory University before teaching at Appalachian State University. He joined the faculty of his alma mater in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>A reception for graduates and their guests will follow the ceremony.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John M.
