{"id":9133,"date":"2021-01-14T22:34:59","date_gmt":"2021-01-14T22:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2021\/01\/14\/americans-should-rethink-overthrowing-other-peoples-governments\/"},"modified":"2022-09-07T15:37:34","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T19:37:34","slug":"americans-should-rethink-overthrowing-other-peoples-governments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/americans-should-rethink-overthrowing-other-peoples-governments\/","title":{"rendered":"Americans should rethink overthrowing other peoples\u2019 governments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In his second opinion piece appearing in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.juancole.com\/2021\/01\/washington-overthrowing-governments.html\">Informed Comment<\/a> <\/strong>in recent days, Furman University&#8217;s Akan Malici, a politics and international affairs professor, says Americans &#8211; Democrats and Republicans alike &#8211; have received an awakening of sorts when it comes insurrection and coup attempts following the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6 by Trump supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Malici recounts how the U.S. has for decades imposed its will on foreign governments to protect its interests.
