Alexa Morse \u201915 has been named Emerging Leader of the Year by Georgia Bio. Presented to young individuals who have made a significant impact on the life sciences industry, Morse is a program manager in the Accelerator and Business Development division of the Global Center for Medical Innovation (GCMI) in Atlanta.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute honor to be awarded something like this,\u201d Morse said. \u201cThere are so many amazing, talented and passionate young professionals that are part of the life sciences ecosystem in Georgia, so it was a very pleasant surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n
GCMI is dedicated to the design, creation and commercialization of medical devices. The company works closely with startups and entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am passionate about working with others to build up Atlanta\u2019s health technology community,\u201d Morse said. \u201cI\u2019ve been involved with Georgia Bio and other Atlanta organizations over the past few years who have initiatives aligned with this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morse, a native of Tampa, Florida, was a health sciences major at Furman and a member of the women\u2019s soccer team. After graduation she earned a Master of Public Health in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University\u2019s Rollins School of Public Health and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration from Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n
She credits Furman Associate Professors of Health Sciences Meghan Slining and Natalie The for helping her discover her passion as an undergraduate.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth were very impactful to my entire Furman journey,\u201d Morse said. \u201cFurman encourages students to experiment and explore different avenues to figure out what they enjoy doing. Meghan Slining is fantastic at really helping people find their passion and Natalie The is great at motivating students to be the best they can be.”<\/p>\n
Georgia Bio is the state\u2019s life science advocacy and business leadership industry association. Its members work with industry, government, academia and others to shape public policy, improve access to innovative technologies and grow Georgia\u2019s life sciences economy.<\/p>\n
The annual Golden Helix Awards celebrate the contributions and achievements of those fostering partnerships dedicated to creating a healthier world. Recipients were recognized at the 2020 Golden Helix Awards & Annual Gala in March in Atlanta.<\/p>\n
