Furman University\u2019s Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present a concert Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on campus.<\/p>\n
The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.<\/p>\n
Led by Furman\u2019s Jay Bocook, the concert features works by John Philip Sousa, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Malcolm Arnold and Mark Camphouse. A new piece by American composer Michael Markowski will also be premiered. The event is part of Furman\u2019s Cultural Life Program.<\/p>\n
A 1975 Furman graduate, Bocook is director of athletic bands and orchestration. He is recognized internationally as a composer, arranger, conductor and educator. 2012 saw his induction into the American Bandmasters Association. Bocook was also honored recently by Drum Corps International with induction into the\u00a0DCI Hall of Fame\u00a0for his longtime work as music arranger for the eight-time World Champion Garfield Cadets.\u00a0Bocook’s work has been featured in the 1984 Olympic Games (Los Angeles), 1996 Centennial Olympic Games (Atlanta) and the 2002 Winter Olympic Games (Salt Lake City). Bocook holds a master\u2019s in music from Northeast Louisiana University.<\/p>\n
