The North Carolina Economic Development Association (NCEDA) announced that Laura Tollini Rowley was honored Oct. 27 with its Emerging Leader of the Year Award. Rowley, a 2008 Furman University biology alumna, is director of life sciences economic development at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center based at Research Triangle Park.<\/p>\n
The award recognizes her support of 30 life sciences recruitment and expansion initiatives having a projected growth of nearly 4,500 jobs and $2.5 billion capital investment.<\/p>\n
\u201cLaura\u2019s extensive knowledge of science and biotechnology, combined with her drive for excellence and passion for developing strong relationships, has provided North Carolina a competitive advantage in growing life science jobs and investment,\u201d said Bill Bullock, the Biotech Center\u2019s senior vice president.<\/p>\n
Rowley joined the Biotech Center in January 2017. In addition to her Furman bachelor’s degree, she holds a doctorate in genetics and molecular biology from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
