{"id":899,"date":"2016-02-17T19:48:54","date_gmt":"2016-02-18T00:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2016\/02\/17\/furman-creates-scholarship-program-for-graduates-of-greenville-county-public-high-schools\/"},"modified":"2022-11-07T13:53:10","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T18:53:10","slug":"furman-creates-scholarship-program-for-graduates-of-greenville-county-public-high-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furman-creates-scholarship-program-for-graduates-of-greenville-county-public-high-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman creates scholarship program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OCTOBER 31, 2012<br \/>\nby Vince Moore, Director of News and Media Relations<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newsimg.furman.edu.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/bell-tower.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4702 lazyload\" title=\"bell-tower\" data-src=\"http:\/\/newsimg.furman.edu.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/bell-tower.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"358\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 251px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 251\/358;\" \/><\/a>GREENVILLE, S.C.\u2014Furman University has established a new program to award up to 18 $20,000 scholarships each year to qualified students from Greenville County public high schools, part of Furman\u2019s continuing effort to encourage talented students in the Upstate to remain in the area as they pursue their educational goals and to strengthen their commitment to the Upstate.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in the fall of 2013, the university will award the Max Heller Community Scholarship to one student at each of the 15 public high schools (including the Governor\u2019s School for the Arts and Humanities) and three charter schools, based on the recommendation of the high school principal, commitment to attending Furman, and evidence of admissibility to Furman\u2019s undergraduate program.<\/p>\n<p>The $20,000 scholarship is renewable for four years if the student remains in good academic standing with the university.
