<\/a>Dr. Melinda Menzer<\/p><\/div>\n
Furman University English professor Melinda Menzer will deliver the L.D. Johnson lecture, \u201cWhat Really Matters?\u201d on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in Daniel Memorial Chapel.<\/p>\n
Her talk is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the Office of the Chaplains.<\/p>\n
The L.D. Johnson Lecture Series was established to honor of the life and work of the late L.D. Johnson, chaplain at Furman from 1967 to 1981. Each year the lecture series invites one Furman faculty member or administrator and one graduate to discuss \u201cWhat Really Matters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Menzer joined the Furman faculty in 1995. Her research interests revolve around the history of linguistic thought and the importance of reading medieval texts in their manuscript context.<\/p>\n
Menzer received her B.A. from Williams College and her master\u2019s and doctorate degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. She teaches courses at Furman in linguistics and early medieval texts, as well as a regular first-year writing course for freshman entitled \u201cWho Speaks Bad English?\u201d\u00a0 She currently serves on the board at Temple of Israel where she regularly teaches Hebrew at the religious school.<\/p>\n
