<\/a>The activity at the Herring Center is already in full swing.<\/p><\/div>\n
GREENVILLE, S.C.\u2014Furman University will hold a dedication ceremony Thursday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. for the new Herring Center for Continuing Education.<\/p>\n
Construction on the building, which is located next to the Younts Conference Center and across from Timmons Arena, was completed last month.<\/p>\n
The public is invited to attend.<\/p>\n
The $6.4 million, 23,000-square-foot Herring Center houses Furman\u2019s Division of Continuing Education, including offices of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Bridges to a Brighter Future, Center for Corporate and Professional Development, Learning for You, and Undergraduate Evening Studies.\u00a0 It also provides classroom space for these programs.<\/p>\n
The naming gift for the Center was provided by Furman graduates Sarah and Gordon Herring of Greenville, who have been generous and longtime donors of the university.\u00a0 Other major donors include local foundations, alumni and friends.\u00a0OLLI members provided $3.7 million towards the construction of the building.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delighted to have played a small part in making the Continuing Education center a reality,\u201d said Sarah and Gordon Herring.\u00a0 \u201cWe have watched the OLLI community and the other Continuing Education departments embrace their new home. We truly believe the Herring Center will be the most used building on the Furman campus and it will introduce scores of new friends to this wonderful university.\u201d<\/p>\n
The dedication ceremony will include remarks by Smolla, Gordon Herring, and Furman Continuing Education director Brad Bechtold.<\/p>\n
