Session topics<\/a> included \u201cTeaching Beyond Fair: Inquiry Around Gun Violence in the English Language Classroom,\u201d \u201cMisreading the Science of Reading,\u201d \u201cEthical Dimensions of Teaching Digital Literacy\u201d and \u201cCritical Media Literacy in English Education.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/b>A chapter co-authored by Education Professor Katie Kelly and Alyssa Cameron \u201914 (M.A. \u201916) is included in the newly-published “Handbook of Research on Formative Assessment in Pre-K through Elementary Classrooms<\/a>” (IGI Global). <\/em>The chapter examines the role of self-assessment to center elementary learners\u2019 participation and ownership in the learning process.<\/p>\n

Jessica Patterson ’07 M.Ed<\/p><\/div>\n

Jessica Patterson ’07 M.Ed named Elementary Principal of the Year
\n<\/strong>Jessica Patterson, a 2007 Furman University graduate (M.Ed) and principal at Chastain Road Elementary School, has been named South Carolina\u2019s Elementary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. Her six years\u2019 service as principal at the Pickens County school includes her leadership in bringing the school from a \u201cBelow Average\u201d rating on its state report card in 2018 to an \u201cExcellent\u201d rating in 2019. She also introduced the Montessori education model to the school.
