The Furman Percussion Ensemble will present a concert Saturday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on campus.<\/p>\n
Directed by Associate Professor of Percussion Omar Carmenates, the concert is open to the public and is presented by the Furman Department of Music. Tickets, available at the door, are $5.<\/p>\n
The hour-long concert features a variety of modern chamber percussion repertoire by composers such as Dave Hall, Annika Socolofsky and the Grammy Award-winning quartet Third Coast Percussion.<\/p>\n
The event also features Furman faculty member Alison Trainer in a unique percussion ensemble transcription of Anton\u00edn Dvor\u00e1k\u2019s renowned soprano aria \u201cSong to the Moon\u201d from his opera \u201cRusalka.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Furman University Percussion Ensemble performs a diverse range of literature while also dedicating itself to commissioning and performing new chamber works from both established and up-and-coming composers. Recent projects include co-commissioning and performing the United States premiere of John Luther Adams\u2019 \u201cInuksuit\u201d for nine to 99 outdoor percussionists, music of ecoacoustic composer Matthew Burtner, and a recording entitled \u201cThe John Psathas Percussion Project Volume 1\u201d released in January 2019 through PARMA Recordings. Gramophone magazine has hailed the recording as having \u201csuperbly rendered performances.\u201d<\/p>\n
