The exhibition marks Brodeur\u2019s last year of teaching at Furman and the 20th anniversary of the Governor\u2019s School, where Brodeur founded the Visual Arts Department and served as first chair.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is an overview of 50 years of artistic endeavor. Thompson Gallery holds \u201cDevelopment,\u201d works from Brodeur\u2019s undergraduate years through 2003. The paintings and drawings comprise a variety of media and show Brodeur\u2019s evolution as an artist. Many of the works come from Brodeur\u2019s personal holdings and have never before been exhibited.<\/p>\n<p>Brodeur joined the Furman faculty in 2003. Specializing in studio art (foundations, painting and drawing) Brodeur earned his bachelor\u2019s in art at the University of New Hampshire. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from Boston University where he studied with Philip Guston and James Weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Brodeur has exhibited nationally and internationally in solo and group shows including \u201cContemporary Conversations, Works curated from the South Carolina Art Collection,\u201d 701 Center for Contemporary Art, Columbia, South Carolina; \u201cFrom America,\u201d Museum of Contemporary Art, Minsk Belarus; \u201cMostra,\u201d Cortona Italy; and the \u201c2nd International Painting Exhibition Competition,\u201d Lessedra Gallery in Sofia Bulgaria, among many others.<\/p>\n<p>Brodeur\u2019s work is held in private and public collections. Among the public institutions holding his work are The Emrys Foundation (Greenville), Columbia College (Columbia), LaMar Dodd Art Center at LaGrange College (LaGrange, Georgia), the South Carolina Arts Commission, the South Carolina State Museum and the Greenville County Museum of Art.<\/p>\n<p>His work has appeared twice in \u201cNew American Paintings,\u201d editions #58 and #100.<\/p>\n<p>After teaching nearly 40 years, mostly in higher education, Brodeur will retire at the end of this academic year.
