Parks IV, a 1993 Furman University music alumnus, has received Florida State University\u2019s 2019 Distinguished Teacher Award. Parks is only the third College of Music faculty member to receive FSU&#8217;s most prestigious honor for teaching. He joined the FSU faculty in 2003 and was promoted to full professor in 2016. According to an article published in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.fsu.edu\/news\/university-news\/2019\/05\/01\/percussion-professor-lauded-with-florida-states-distinguished-teacher-award\/\"><strong>Florida State University News<\/strong><\/a>, Parks was instrumental in establishing the nation&#8217;s only conservatory-competitive percussion studio that includes <span style=\"display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: #ffffff; color: #333333; cursor: text; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;\">recording technology and entrepreneurship as part of applied instruction.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John W.
