Thompson Gallery hours are 9 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A reception and gallery talk by Walker is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6:30 \u2013 8:30 p.m. in the Roe Art Building.<\/p>\n<p>Walker\u2019s exhibition, \u201cJournal Entries,\u201d is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Walker\u2019s work is described by Wim Roefs as \u201coccupying a space somewhere between abstract expressionism and color field painting.\u201d Roefs, executive director of Columbia-based 701 Center for Contemporary Art and owner of if ART Gallery (Columbia), says Walker\u2019s work captures \u201celements of minimalism and geometric art without the hard edges and clinical feel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul Matheny of South Carolina State Museum in Columbia says \u201cWalker\u2019s large-scale abstract paintings vividly reflect the energy she projects onto her canvases\u2026The interactions between color, line, surface and, at times, the raw canvas reflect tensions between those elements or a flattering balance within their shared relationship in the final work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walker regularly shows in galleries across the Southeast. She has taught at Furman University, where she earned her bachelor\u2019s in studio art. She holds a master\u2019s from the University of Georgia and studied and taught in the university\u2019s Cortona Study Abroad program in Italy.
