Claire Gibson, a 2009 Furman University graduate, will return to campus to discuss her debut novel, \u201cBeyond the Point,\u201d Tuesday, April 16, at 5 p.m. in Room 214 of Furman Hall.<\/p>\n

Gibson will read from the novel and then participate in a Q&A with the audience. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a reception in Furman Hall 217.<\/p>\n

Gibson\u2019s debut novel is available at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on campus.<\/p><\/div>\n

Copies of the book, published by HarperCollins, will be available at the event and at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeyond the Point\u201d is set at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where three women\u2014a nationally-ranked point guard, the granddaughter of an Army general and a rebellious Homecoming Queen\u2014are brought together in a story of friendship, heartbreak and resilience.<\/p>\n

Gibson, who graduated from Furman with a degree in Asian studies and politics and international affairs, is a writer and journalist based in Nashville, Tennessee. Born and raised at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, she had always wanted to write a story that honored her childhood home and the women there who inspired her.<\/p>\n

Her writing has been featured in The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, The Tennessean and Entrepreneur Magazine, among many other publications.<\/p>\n

Gibson\u2019s reading is sponsored by Furman\u2019s Department of English, Department of Military Science and The Tocqueville Program.<\/p>\n
