{"id":8117,"date":"2019-03-28T18:14:04","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T22:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2019\/04\/03\/palathon-breaks-fundraising-record-funds-endowment-for-childrens-camp\/"},"modified":"2022-11-06T19:25:22","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T00:25:22","slug":"palathon-breaks-fundraising-record-funds-endowment-for-childrens-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/palathon-breaks-fundraising-record-funds-endowment-for-childrens-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"PalaTHON breaks fundraising record, funds endowment for children&#8217;s camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, more than 250 Furman University students came together in Timmons Arena for the school&#8217;s 6th annual PalaTHON.\u00a0The six-hour dance marathon raised more than $40,500, all of which will go to support Prisma Health Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to breaking a fundraising record, this year&#8217;s PalaTHON started an endowment for Camp Courage, a program that allows children affected by cancer and blood disorders and their siblings to experience a normal summer camp experience.<\/p>\n<p>From a Zumba class to an electric rave, students and community members enjoyed games, activities and dancing throughout the event.\u00a0 In addition, five families and Carolina Pediatric shared stories about the amazing work being done at Prisma Health Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Student DJ Gianni Iona &#8217;20 kept the energy levels high during the dancing, which prompted a special appearance on the dance floor by Nancy Cooper, Furman&#8217;s coordinator of volunteer services.<\/p>\n<p>Heller Service Corps and the Student Government Association sponsored the event.
