Furman University\u2019s accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has been renewed for another 10 years.<\/p>\n
The renewal was awarded on Dec. 11, 2018. SACSCOC is the accrediting body for higher education in the 11 southern states.<\/p>\n
Furman demonstrated compliance with over 90 standards that cover all aspects of the university, including leadership and governance, finances, faculty numbers and qualifications, student services and physical facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur smooth renewal of accreditation is a testament to the strengths of the institution, especially its highly-qualified faculty and staff,\u201d said Furman Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost George Shields. \u201cMany people served on committees, wrote and edited reports, and dedicated their time for the good of the university.\u201d<\/p>\n
The process included a two-year study that resulted in Furman\u2019s Quality Enhancement Plan. \u201cEngaged Learning at Furman: Ensuring Access, Quality and Impact\u201d is a natural extension of The Furman Advantage, which promises every student a high-impact, engaged learning experience through research, internships and study away.<\/p>\n
The accreditation standards are evaluated through a system of peer review, culminating with a vote by the SACSCOC\u2019s board of representatives elected from member institutions.<\/p>\n
