{"id":7904,"date":"2018-12-13T13:00:04","date_gmt":"2018-12-13T18:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2018\/12\/13\/moore-pierce-furman-all-southern-conference-faculty-staff-team\/"},"modified":"2022-11-06T19:29:11","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T00:29:11","slug":"moore-pierce-furman-all-southern-conference-faculty-staff-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/moore-pierce-furman-all-southern-conference-faculty-staff-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Moore, Pierce represent Furman on All-SoCon Faculty and Staff Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Furman Director of News and Media Relations Vince Moore, who has been a member of the University Communications office since 1982, and Professor of Health Sciences William J. &#8220;Bill&#8221; Pierce, who joined the Furman faculty in 1983,\u00a0have been named to the All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team.<\/p>\n<p>Moore is responsible for communicating with the local, regional and national media while overseeing the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.furman.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Furman News<\/a> page. He also contributes to Furman Magazine and has served as the official scorekeeper for the <a href=\"http:\/\/furmanpaladins.com\/sports\/m-baskbl\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">men&#8217;s basketball team<\/a>\u00a0for 35 years.<\/p>\n<p>Before coming to Furman, Moore was a sportswriter for the Greenville Piedmont and Anderson Independent-Mail, where he was the golf writer and covered teams in the ACC, SEC and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soconsports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Southern Conference<\/a>.\u00a0He is a graduate of Georgetown College in Kentucky and received a master\u2019s in mass communication from the University of South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www2.furman.edu\/academics\/healthsciences\/Meet-Our-Faculty\/Pages\/William-J-(Bill)-Pierce.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pierce<\/a> chaired the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.furman.edu\/academics\/healthsciences\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health sciences department<\/a> for three decades. Lead author of two books\u2014 &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/705694.Runner_s_World_Run_Less_Run_Faster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Runner&#8217;s World Run Less, Run Faster: Become a Faster, Stronger Runner with the Revolutionary FIRST Training Program<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0and &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/30038860-runner-s-world-train-smart-run-forever\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Runner&#8217;s World Train Smart, Run Forever: How to Become a Fit and Healthy Lifelong Runner by Following The Innovative 7-Hour Workout Week&#8221;<\/a>\u2014Pierce led curricular changes to the health science department&#8217;s present emphasis on wellness and health sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Co-founder of the Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.furman.edu\/sites\/first\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FIRST<\/a>), Pierce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.runnersworld.com\/training\/a20836956\/meet-the-marathon-experts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was listed<\/a> as one of 10 marathon \u201csupercoaches\u201d by Runner\u2019s World magazine and is a co-founder of community-wide health promotion programs Greenville Walks, Get Fit Greenville and Activate Greenville that preceded the present coalition, <a href=\"https:\/\/livewellgreenville.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LiveWell Greenville<\/a>. He serves as Furman\u2019s faculty athletics representative and is a past president of the Southern Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Moore and Pierce will be presented with a plaque and honored at a home basketball game later this season.<\/p>\n<p>Selections were left up to each school&#8217;s discretion, and all 10 league member institutions were represented by two people each on the All-Southern Conference Faculty and Staff Team.
