GREENVILLE, S.C.\u2014The Riley Institute Diversity Leaders Initiative at Furman has received a $7,500 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation, which is funded by TD Bank.<\/p>\n
The DLI encourages community leaders to consider the challenges and opportunities presented by wide-ranging diversity in South Carolina, including among others, differences in cultural background, language, gender, and physical ability.<\/p>\n
Chosen by nomination and application, participants in DLI come from all demographic groups and sectors \u2013 corporate, nonprofit, faith-based, education, and public officials. Graduates from the program have crafted initiatives addressing nutrition, childhood obesity, transportation, teen pregnancy, literacy, housing, racial issues, and many others.<\/p>\n
The DLI operates statewide with classes in the Upstate, Lowcountry and Midlands; and, since its 2003 inception, has graduated more than 1,000 community members.<\/p>\n
TD Bank and the TD Charitable Foundation provide support to affordable housing, financial literacy and education, and environmental initiatives, many of which focus on improving the welfare of children and families.<\/p>\n
