{"id":7702,"date":"2018-09-15T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-15T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2018\/10\/01\/band-extravaganza-set-for-sept-28\/"},"modified":"2022-09-07T15:15:49","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T19:15:49","slug":"band-extravaganza-set-for-sept-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/band-extravaganza-set-for-sept-28\/","title":{"rendered":"Band Extravaganza set for Sept. 28"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Furman University\u2019s Marching Band, The Paladin Regiment, will present its annual Band Extravaganza concert Friday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on campus.<\/p>\n<p>The concert is open to the public and is held in conjunction with Family Weekend at the university. Admission is $5 at the door.<\/p>\n<p>Under the direction of Furman\u2019s Jay Bocook, the Paladin Regiment will perform the set list from the band\u2019s 2018 Exhibition Show \u201cBritish Invasion,\u201d which explores the music of iconic rock bands from the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>This performance will present Furman arrangements of Led Zeppelin&#8217;s hit \u201cKashmir,\u201d Men Without Hats&#8217; \u201cSafety Dance,\u201d and the Beatles&#8217; \u201cEleanor Rigby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Paladin Regiment will also perform traditional Furman tunes such as the \u201cFurman Fight Song,\u201d the \u201cVictory Song\u201d and the \u201cAlma Mater.\u201d The group will honor the country with settings of \u201cAmerica the Beautiful\u201d and \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner.\u201d Also making an appearance are favorite stand charts \u201cHey Baby,\u201d \u201cGimme Some Lovin\u2019,\u201d and \u201cJungle Boogie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Paladin Regiment, led by Drum Majors Raven Althouse (Class of 2020) and Jake Henjes (Class of 2021), will showcase the Furman Dance Company, which will perform choreography to stand tunes \u201cYou Can Call Me Al\u201d by Paul Simon, \u201cLand of a Thousand Dances\u201d made famous by Wilson Pickett, and \u201cUptown Funk\u201d by Bruno Mars. Featured twirler, Katiemarie Owen (Class of 2022), will entertain during selected numbers throughout the program.<\/p>\n<p>The Paladin Regiment is one of six major ensembles in the Furman Band program. In addition to performing at each home football game, the band has been invited to perform at the South Carolina Band Directors Association 4-A Marching Band Championships in Columbia Oct. 27.
