Currently, Furman is planning to maintain a regular schedule.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36923\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36923\" class=\"wp-image-36923 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/news.furman.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/florence-image-color.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"186\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 330px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 330\/186;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-36923\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Furman and Greenville are outside the designated evacuation zones in South Carolina.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has called for a mandatory evacuation along the state\u2019s coast, Greenville lies outside the designated evacuation zones.<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Weather Service, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/#Florence\">Florence is currently tracking<\/a><\/strong> west-northwest and is expected to make landfall along the North Carolina coast around 2 a.m. Friday.\u00a0 If the storm continues on this track, it is predicted to have a minimal impact on Greenville (half-inch of rain and winds 8-13 mph).<\/p>\n<p>A change in Florence\u2019s path could affect Furman more directly, so university officials will be in constant communication with the National Weather Service and Greenville County Emergency Management to monitor the storm.<\/p>\n<p>The university realizes that some students may be anxious about families and friends who live in areas that may be directly affected by Florence. Those students may contact the Office of Spiritual Life at 864-294-2133 or the Counseling Center at 864-294-3031 if they need to speak with someone.<\/p>\n<p>Students, faculty and staff will also receive text and email alerts in emergency situations.
