While driving to work on Friday, Aug. 24, Furman Police Lieutenant Victor Rivas was struck by a stolen pick-up truck on White Horse Road.<\/p>\n

Rivas\u2019 car was destroyed in the accident, and he sustained substantial injuries. He remains in the hospital, suffering from multiple fractures to his face, clavicle, wrist and ribs.<\/p>\n

The driver of the stolen car fled on foot following the accident, and has not yet been identified.<\/p>\n

\u201cFortunately, Victor was wearing his seatbelt and his vehicle was equipped with front and side airbags, which likely saved his life,\u201d said Furman Chief of Police John Milby. \u201cVictor is facing a lengthy recovery, and we welcome the prayers and support of the university community.\u201d<\/p>\n
