Smith, a Greer resident who plans to study biology in the fall, has received a scholarship for her work in hydroponics&#8211;the process of growing plants without soil.\u00a0Smith was named the Rotary Club&#8217;s &#8220;Service Above Self Scholar&#8221; in part for her commitment to\u00a0help people struggling with food insecurity. The Rotary Club of Greenville awarded her a $5,000\u00a0college scholarship grant, renewable every year for up to $20,000.
