Three members of the Furman University faculty were invited to give presentations at the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) Biennial Conference 2018, \u201cCreating Collaborative Connections in & Through Undergraduate Research,\u201d July 1-3 in Arlington, Va.<\/p>\n
The presentations were given by Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost George Shields, Politics and International Affairs Professor Danielle Vinson, and Earth and Environmental Sciences Professor Geoffrey Habron.<\/p>\n
Shields participated in a session titled \u201cWhat Next? Evaluating Options for Faculty Advancement,\u201d while Vinson\u2019s session was about \u201cIntegrating Research Into a Class, a Curriculum and a Campus Culture.\u201d Habron\u2019s program was on \u201cBuilding Transdisciplinary Skills Among Undergraduate Students Through Summer Research Experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFurman has long been a national leader in undergraduate research and other high-impact engaged learning activities,\u201d Shields said. \u201cSo we were honored to participate in the CUR conference and talk about some of the creative things we are doing at the university.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Council on Undergraduate Research supports faculty and student development for high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research, scholarship and creative activities. The purpose of the conference was to \u201chighlight the value of undergraduate research\u201d and allow attendees to \u201clearn from each other in the effort to expand opportunities for undergraduates in collaborative scholarly work and creative activities.\u201d<\/p>\n
