Launched in 2002 by the Riley Institute, EPL is an intensive, statewide service-oriented leadership program for rising high school seniors.<\/p>\n<p>EPL has accepted 16 rising high school seniors from across South Carolina for its 16<sup>th<\/sup> class, bringing the total number of students who have participated in the program to 244.<\/p>\n<p>The 2018-19 Riley Institute Emerging Public Leaders are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bayan Abunijem<\/strong><br \/>\nGreenville Tech Charter<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reilly Arford<\/strong><br \/>\nRidge View High School<br \/>\nColumbia<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madison Re\u2019nee Brawley<\/strong><br \/>\nStrom Thurmond High School<br \/>\nJohnston<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claire Derakhshan<\/strong><br \/>\nWest Florence High School<br \/>\nFlorence<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olivia Dozier<\/strong><br \/>\nDreher High School<br \/>\nColumbia<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lauren Garrison<\/strong><br \/>\nRiver Bluff High School<br \/>\nLexington<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lillian Holland<\/strong><br \/>\nPorter-Gaud School<br \/>\nSullivan\u2019s Island<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrea Kimpson<\/strong><br \/>\nRichland Northeast High School<br \/>\nColumbia<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arnav Lal<\/strong><br \/>\nStanford Online<br \/>\nGreer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Henry Lear<\/strong><br \/>\nSouthside High School<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elliott Marron<\/strong><br \/>\nGreenville Senior High Academy<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blanton Newman<\/strong><br \/>\nJ.L. Mann Academy<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olivia Reichenbach<\/strong><br \/>\nHilton Head Christian Academy<br \/>\nHilton Head<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lillian Rowan<\/strong><br \/>\nMyrtle Beach High School<br \/>\nMyrtle Beach<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cate Tedford<\/strong><br \/>\nNation Ford High School<br \/>\nFort Mill<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mae Webster<\/strong><br \/>\nSpartanburg Day School<br \/>\nSpartanburg<\/p>\n<p>Students will convene June 17-22 on the Furman campus where they will investigate topics such as engaging in the community, analyzing critical issues, practicing ethical leadership, developing communication and presentation skills, and planning for the implementation of a service project. Thanks to generous sponsors including Cox Industries, State Farm, Walmart, and the Pazdan family, students attend EPL free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>Following the summer, students work with Riley Institute staff, school officials, and residents in their communities to further develop their service project ideas and implement projects that address diversity and specific needs in their communities.<\/p>\n<p>The students return to campus the following spring to present their community service projects to a panel of judges, and the winning project receives funds for program expansion or replication.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/riley.furman.edu\/education\/projects\/emerging-public-leaders\/emerging-public-leaders\">Riley Institute\u2019s Emerging Public Leaders program<\/a>.
