After playing a significant role in rebuilding higher education in the war-torn nation, he assumed the presidency of the university just one day after a major terror attack in Kabul.<\/p>\n<p>Holland graduated summa cum laude from Furman in 1970 with a degree in political science. He went on to earn a master\u2019s degree in government from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He has held a variety of positions in higher education, including the University of Wisconsin&#8211;Madison, University of Vermont, University of Memphis, Luther College, Kansas State University and Ball State University.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/news.virginia.edu\/content\/qa-alumnus-kenneth-holland-leads-resurgence-higher-ed-afghanistan\">UVA Today<\/a><\/em><\/strong> interviewed Holland shortly after he became president of American University of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenneth Holland, a 1970 Furman graduate, became president of American University of Afghanistan in June 2017.
