Furman University senior Lexie Harvey, a politics and international affairs major from Brentwood, Tennessee, will be the student speaker at Furman\u2019s spring commencement Saturday, May 5.<\/p>\n

Lexie Harvey is a politics and international affairs major from Brentwood, Tennessee.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The university selects a graduating senior each year to address the students prior to the commencement address. The graduation ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Paladin Stadium.<\/p>\n

A Dean\u2019s List student at Furman, Harvey served as student director of the Shucker Leadership Institute and as president of Omicron Delta Kappa. She was also a member of the leadership team for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.<\/p>\n

Harvey was a Furman TEDx conference speaker and a recipient of the American Legion Medal. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in strategic communications.<\/p>\n

She is the daughter of Mindy and Tim Harvey of Brentwood.<\/p>\n

Frances Ligler, a 1972 Furman graduate and the Lampe Distinguished Professor in the UNC\/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, is commencement speaker and will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree.<\/p>\n

The public is invited to attend. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to Timmons Arena and admittance will be by ticket only.<\/p>\n
