And you might want to come early.<\/p>\n<p>The picnic area beyond the right-field foul line of the downtown ballpark has been redesigned and dubbed \u201cFurman on Deck,\u201d and the university is inviting alumni and friends to attend a special celebration in the area before the 7 p.m. game against the Gamecocks.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36097\" style=\"width: 471px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36097\" class=\"wp-image-36097 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/furman-on-deck-photo-950.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"461\" height=\"289\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 461px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 461\/289;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-36097\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>&#8220;Furman on Deck&#8221; includes a collage of university photos.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The celebration, which begins at 5:30 p.m., will include an official ribbon cutting as well as remarks by Furman Athletics Director Mike Buddie,<\/p>\n<p>Greenville Drive owner and president Craig Brown, and Furman Provost George Shields.<\/p>\n<p>The event at Fluor Field is part of the university\u2019s fourth annual Dins Day, a 24-hour celebration of all things Furman. The university will also sponsor a lunchtime event downtown that day at Furman on Main inside M. Judson Booksellers, 130 S. Main, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.\u00a0Furman First Gentleman Charles Davis will be signing copies of his new cookbook, \u201cIn the Kitchen at White Oaks.\u201d And head football coach Clay Hendrix and head basketball coach Bob Richey will also be there.<\/p>\n<p>The new picnic area at Fluor Field includes a prominent \u201cFurman on Deck\u201d sign at the entrance as well as flags, banners, photos and other university signage.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36098\" style=\"width: 287px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36098\" class=\"wp-image-36098 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/furman-on-deck-flags-850.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"407\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 277px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 277\/407;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-36098\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Furman flags, banners and other university signage are prominently displayed.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cFurman has enjoyed a great partnership with the Greenville Drive for the past 12 years. As our partnership grows, it makes sense for the university to have a more visible presence at the ballpark,\u201d said Furman President Elizabeth Davis. \u201cThis is a part of Furman\u2019s commitment to connect more deeply with the Greenville community and downtown, where we had a campus for more than 100 years before moving to our current location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fluor Field is the home of the Greenville Drive, the minor league A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Modeled after Fenway Park, the ballpark has its own \u201cGreen Monster,\u201d a 30-foot high wall in left field.<\/p>\n<p>Furman has played a significant number of games at Fluor Field since the stadium opened in 2006. The Paladins regularly play Clemson and South Carolina each year, and the team faced Michigan State and Illinois in March at the First Pitch Invitational. Furman has played a total of 72 games at Fluor Field in the past 12 seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Furman also has partnerships with Bon Secours Wellness Arena, the Upcountry History Museum and M.
