Art by 15 Furman University graduating seniors will be on display April 10-May 3 in Thompson Gallery of the Roe Art Building on campus. Thompson Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A reception honoring the artists is set for Tuesday, April 10, 6-8 p.m. in the Roe Art Building. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

In the exhibition, \u201cDisappointing Episodes,\u201d artists will display a variety of mediums: painting, print making, ceramics, photography, film, textiles and sculpture. Many works will be available for sale.<\/p>\n

The Class of 2018 offers this statement about \u201cDisappointing Episodes\u201d:<\/p>\n

“As students and artists, we have encountered many situations in which we have had to fail in order to succeed. The collegiate experience\u2014facing the pressures of academics, social lives, and trying to find our artistic voices\u2014has resulted in what we like to refer to as ‘disappointing episodes’\u2014that is, moments where we feel we have been defeated.\u00a0 When we experience disappointing episodes, we must choose to learn and grow from them, or allow the episodes to define who we are.\u00a0 Our senior class, composed of 15 students with diverse backgrounds and visions, has chosen to prosper in the face of adversity. As a result, we have a show that represents our small community and our journey as artists in our senior year. We hope you view our work as an extension of our Furman experience, our progress as artists, and a glimpse into our futures.”<\/p>\n
