STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment &amp; Rating System, measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_35914\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35914\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35914 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/STARS-gold2-300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/300;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-35914\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Furman has earned a Gold rating through STARS, a program of AASHE.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Furman\u2019s STARS report is publicly available on the STARS website: <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2DMsTI0\">http:\/\/bit.ly\/2DMsTI0<\/a>. The report shows that Furman is rated in the top 10 baccalaureate institutions in the nation and is the highest rated baccalaureate institution in the entire south.<\/p>\n<p>Said Furman Associate Director of Sustainability Assessment Laura Bain, \u201cCompiling the STARS report is a collaborative effort that would not be possible without the help of our Sustainability Student Fellow, Logan Richardson, and the steadfast support of our facilities services and campus operations teams. I am proud of what Furman has accomplished thus far and excited to continue working toward an even more sustainable campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With more than 800 participants in 30 countries, AASHE\u2019s STARS program is the most widely recognized framework in the world for publicly reporting comprehensive information related to a college or university\u2019s sustainability performance. Participants report achievements in five overall areas: 1) academics, 2) engagement, 3) operations, 4) planning and administration, and 5) innovation and leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSTARS was developed by the campus sustainability community to provide high standards for recognizing campus sustainability efforts,\u201d said AASHE Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. \u201cFurman University has demonstrated a substantial commitment to sustainability by achieving a STARS Gold rating and is to be congratulated for its efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_28008\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28008\" class=\"wp-image-28008 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/AASHE_RGB_300-6-600-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"277\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 350px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 350\/277;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-28008\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AASHE&#8217;s STARS program is the most widely used report card for measuring campus sustainability.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Unlike other rating or ranking systems, this program is open to all institutions of higher education, and the criteria that determine a STARS rating are transparent and accessible to anyone.
