{"id":73,"date":"2011-10-10T15:11:10","date_gmt":"2011-10-10T19:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2011\/10\/10\/342\/"},"modified":"2022-11-08T13:28:27","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T18:28:27","slug":"342","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/342\/","title":{"rendered":"A father-daughter reading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OCTOBER 10, 2011<br \/>\nby Summer Woods &#8217;14<\/p>\n<p>For the Aarnes family, a talent for writing is apparently genetic.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Bill Aarnes, an English professor, and his daughter, Emma, will be demonstrating that talent Wednesday when they will perform a public reading of their creative works.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place at 4 p.m., Wednesday in McEachern Lecture Hall and counts for a Cultural Life Program (CLP) credit.<\/p>\n<p>Aarnes, who has a Ph.D from John Hopkins, will be reading from his two published poem collections: \u201cLearning to Dance\u201d (1991) and \u201cPredicaments\u201d (2001).<\/p>\n<p>Emma has an MFA degree in fiction from Columbia\u00a0and is currently an assistant to the Director of Film and TV at the Tisch School of Arts at New York University.\u00a0 She has published three short stories and is currently working on a novel titled <em>Fleeing Charley<\/em>.\u00a0 She also hopes to\u00a0start writing screenplays.<\/p>\n<p>While visiting her father this week,\u00a0Emma will also work with one of English professor Kolawole P.
