The Furman University Department of Music will host the Aspen String Trio in concert Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on campus.<\/p>\n
Free and open to the public, the performance includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, Dohn\u00e1nyi and Strauss.<\/p>\n
Their second residency at Furman, the Aspen String Trio will conduct master classes with Furman string students Monday the 22nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n The Aspen String Trio (AST) is one of the rare professional string trios performing and touring today. Summer faculty colleagues at the Aspen Festival and School, AST members David Perry (violin), Victoria Chiang (viola), and Michael Mermagen (cello), have been collaborating for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n Known for virtuoso performances filled with humor and insight, AST regularly performs the complete trios of Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert, as well as lesser-known works by Dohn\u00e1nyi, Hindemith, Martinu, Rozsa, Villa-Lobos and Ysa\u00ffe, among others.<\/p>\n Their many \u201cthemed\u201d concert programs, all generously punctuated with commentary, include a Goldberg Variations lecture recital (SleeplessinLeipzig), Czech, Please! (music of Klein, Martinu, and Dvorak), A Fugue Good Men (fugues of Mozart and Reger), a program of dances, Baroque to modern, and a \u201cDegenerate\u201d concert of music by composers Kr\u00e1sa, G\u00e1l, Klein and Weinberg who were tragically suppressed by the Nazi regime.<\/p>\n AST has released its first recording featuring the of music of Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss.
