GREENVILLE, S.C.\u2014Photographs by students from Furman University\u2019s Bridges to a Brighter Future program are on display at Caf\u00e9 @ Williams Hardware in Travelers Rest during the month of August.<\/p>\n
The photographs are for sale and all proceeds will be used to support Furman\u2019s Bridges to a Brighter Future, a comprehensive college access and pre-college academic enrichment program for Greenville County high school students whose families are living below the poverty level. The funds will help support college scholarships for students who graduate from the Bridges program.<\/p>\n
Priced at $35 each, the photographs are matted and framed.<\/p>\n
The Bridges program includes a four-week summer residential session on the Furman campus where students choose to attend one of seven elective classes in addition to five core classes\u2014math, English, social studies, science, and college planning. \u00a0\u00a0The photographs on display come from an elective photography class taught by Kelly Godwin.<\/p>\n
Students participating in the Bridges program have been identified as having academic potential, but are living in difficult and challenging circumstances. \u00a0The program seeks to break the cycle of poverty and low educational achievement by equipping students with the tools and support needed to graduate from high school, enroll in post-secondary education, and graduate with a post-secondary degree.<\/p>\n
