It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Leavell\u2019s talk is the first of four lectures in the fall series.\u00a0 The other Furman speakers are Earth and Environmental Sciences Professor Brannon Andersen (October 18), Politics and International Affairs Professor Brent Nelsen (October 25) and Communication Studies professors John Armstrong and Brandon Inabinet (November 1).<\/p>\n<p>Leavell will explain why the Japanese opened the Pacific War by attacking Pearl Harbor, and what inspired them to launch such a dramatic move.\u00a0 He will also look at the role economic sanctions played in the event, and what mistakes were made by the Japanese as well as the Americans.<\/p>\n<p>The Upcountry History Museum\/Furman is located at 540 Buncombe Street in downtown Greenville\u2019s Heritage Green area.
