Published annually since 1992, the guide has detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores in eight categories.

“We chose Furman University for this book because it offers outstanding academics,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s editor-in-chief and author of The Best 382 Colleges. “Our selections are based on our surveys of administrators at several hundred four-year colleges. We also visited dozens of colleges each year and give considerable weight to opinions of our staff and our 24-member National College Counselor Advisory Board. Most importantly, we look at feedback we get from surveys of students attending the institutions.”

The book lists the top 20 schools in 62 different categories. Furman was ranked in the following areas:

Most Active Student Government, No. 4

Most Politically Active Students, No. 5

Best Classroom Experience, No. 16

Earlier this year, Furman was listed in The Princeton Review’s “Top 25 Schools for Making an Impact,” a part of the company’s roundup of “Colleges That Pay You Back.” Furman’s rank (No. 24) for Impact Schools was based on student ratings and responses to survey questions covering community service opportunities, student government, sustainability efforts, and on-campus student engagement. The Princeton Review also factored in PayScale.com’s percentage of alumni from each school that reported having high job meaning.

In October 2016, Furman was listed in The Princeton Review’s “Top 50 Green Colleges.” The ranking coincided with the launch of The Furman Advantage, an overarching approach to education that promises every incoming student the opportunity for an engaged learning experience that is tracked and integrated with academic and professional goals supported by enhanced advising and mentoring.

The Best 382 Colleges is available online.
