{"id":672,"date":"2012-08-01T20:29:32","date_gmt":"2012-08-02T00:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2012\/08\/01\/rossano-receives-first-rugby-fund-scholarship\/"},"modified":"2022-11-08T13:47:31","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T18:47:31","slug":"rossano-receives-first-rugby-fund-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/rossano-receives-first-rugby-fund-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Rossano receives first rugby fund scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nick Rossano, a graduate of Riverside High School and two-year captain of the Greer Spartans, has been named the first recipient of the Furman Rugby Fund scholarship.\u00a0 He has enrolled at the university as a member of the class of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>A strong-side flanker, Rossano is a two-time South Carolina All-star. In May, he was named Most Valuable Player of a Georgia U-19 all-star squad that finished 3-1 in a national all-star tournament held in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Rossano led the Spartans to a 26-8 record over the past two years.\u00a0 Furman Rugby Coach John Roberts also coaches the Spartans and has watched Rossano develop since he was a rising sophomore.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3651\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/newsimg.furman.edu.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/rossano.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3651\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3651 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 450px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 450\/321;border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"rossano\" data-src=\"http:\/\/newsimg.furman.edu.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/rossano.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"321\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3651\" id=\"funews_editimgbtn\" title=\"Edit Image\" data-src=\"http:\/\/newspress.furman.edu\/wp-includes\/js\/tinymce\/plugins\/wpeditimage\/img\/image.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"24\" height=\"24\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 24px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 24\/24;\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3651\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nick Rossano captained the Greer Spartans for two years.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cNick has the engine of a strong-side flanker,\u201d says Roberts. \u201cHe is seemingly everywhere at once.\u00a0 He is the best high school flanker I have seen.\u00a0 That aside, he is a young man of tremendous character who will be a perfect match for our squad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rossano is an Eagle Scout, graduated with a 4.45 GPA, and is active in his church and community.\u00a0 He is son of Sal and Judy Rossano of Greer.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to rugby, Rossano participated in track and football at Riverside.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships funded through the Furman Rugby Fund are solely dependent on donations from rugby alumni, parents and friends.
