Launched in 2002 by the Riley Institute, EPL is an intensive, statewide service-oriented leadership program for rising high school seniors.<\/p>\n<p>EPL has accepted 18 rising high school seniors from across South Carolina for its 15th class, bringing the total number of students who have participated in the program to 228.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017-18 Riley Institute Emerging Public Leaders are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jennie Allen<\/strong><br \/>\nUnion County High School<br \/>\nUnion<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mitchell Beard<\/strong><br \/>\nMauldin High School<br \/>\nSimpsonville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jackson Bingham<\/strong><br \/>\nDorman High School<br \/>\nSpartanburg<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vinita Cheepurupalli<\/strong><br \/>\nSpring Valley High School<br \/>\nColumbia<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erica Daly<\/strong><br \/>\nFort Mill High School<br \/>\nTega Cay<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kirsten Fisher<\/strong><br \/>\nWilson Hall<br \/>\nSumter<\/p>\n<p><strong>Farehaa Hussain<\/strong><br \/>\nRiverside High School<br \/>\nGreer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vivian Karamitros<\/strong><br \/>\nClover High School<br \/>\nClover<\/p>\n<p><strong>Avi Mahoney<\/strong><br \/>\nStrom Thurmond High School<br \/>\nJohnson<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ronak Malde<\/strong><br \/>\nSouthside High School<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ellery McNeil<\/strong><br \/>\nCarolina High School<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melody Moorehead<\/strong><br \/>\nHannah-Pamplico High School<br \/>\nPamplico<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olivia Nelli<\/strong><br \/>\nJL Mann High School<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tejas Patel<\/strong><br \/>\nCougar New Tech<br \/>\nWalterboro<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary Laurel Patrick<\/strong><br \/>\nGreenville Sr. High Academy<br \/>\nGreenville<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manning Snyder<\/strong><br \/>\nPorter Gaud<br \/>\nCharleston<\/p>\n<p><strong>Queen Trapp<\/strong><br \/>\nRidge View High School<br \/>\nColumbia<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duncan Winburn<\/strong><br \/>\nWestwood High School<br \/>\nColumbia<\/p>\n<p>Students will convene for a week on Furman University\u2019s campus where they investigate topics such as engaging in the community, analyzing critical issues, practicing ethical leadership, developing communication and presentation skills, and planning for the implementation of a service project. Thanks to generous sponsors including Cox Industries, State Farm, and Walmart, students attend free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>Following the summer, students work with Riley Institute staff, school officials, and residents in their communities to more fully develop their service project ideas and subsequently implement projects that reflect a need and address diversity in their communities.<\/p>\n<p>The students return to campus the following spring to present their community service projects to a panel of judges, and the winning project receives funds for program expansion or replication.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/riley.furman.edu\/education\/projects\/emerging-public-leaders\/emerging-public-leaders\">Riley Institute\u2019s Emerging Public Leaders program<\/a>.
