Furman Coach John Roberts and Clemson Coach Steve Lynch, two of the top college rugby coaches in the nation, will again provide hands-on, intensive instruction to campers.

Most of the camp will be held on the Furman campus, though campers will have at least two training sessions at the Clemson rugby facilities.

Both coaches will organize and manage training sessions, helping young players to master the basics of the game and explaining the nuances to more seasoned players. The camp will be held July 5-9. Members from both programs will be on hand to provide player insight.

Furman completed the 15s season with a 13-1 record and finished national runner up in Div. II. Clemson competes in the prestigious Varsity Cup and is ranked among the very best Div. I teams in the country. Both programs, separated by 45 miles, have enjoyed a long-standing collaborative partnership and routinely conduct joint training sessions.

Founded in 2009, the Furman rugby camp is more than a rugby clinic. It is an experience. While learning from top coaches participants get a small sampling of college life. They enjoy living in the dorms and experience life on one of the most beautiful college campuses in the nation. They train in the Physical Activities Center, swim in Furman’s Olympic-sized pool and dine in Daniel Dining Hall. Participants learn in a fun and competitive environment. Camp favorites include the traditional rugby Olympics, Rugby Jeopardy and creative team competitions.

Campers, too, benefit from Furman professors and varsity coaches who lead lectures on strength training, nutrition and game preparation.

“We feel our camper experience is unsurpassed,” says Coach Roberts. “They benefit from learning from two top-shelf coaches who have different, but successful coach styles.
