{"id":6600,"date":"2017-04-09T18:49:03","date_gmt":"2017-04-09T22:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2017\/04\/17\/welcome-to-phi-beta-kappa\/"},"modified":"2022-11-06T20:10:25","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T01:10:25","slug":"welcome-to-phi-beta-kappa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/welcome-to-phi-beta-kappa\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to Phi Beta Kappa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GREENVILLE, S.C.\u2014Sixty-six Furman University students have been elected to the school\u2019s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation\u2019s oldest and most prestigious academic society.<\/p>\n<p>The newest members were inducted during a special initiation ceremony and dinner on campus in late March.<\/p>\n<p>The president of Furman\u2019s Phi Beta Kappa chapter is Dr. Liz Bouzarth, associate professor of mathematics.\u00a0 The PBK secretary is Patricia Sasser, director of the Maxwell Music Library at Furman.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1776 during the American Revolution, Phi Beta Kappa celebrates and advocates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences.
