{"id":6592,"date":"2017-04-06T16:59:48","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T20:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2017\/04\/07\/high-noon-media-in-the-age-of-trump\/"},"modified":"2022-11-06T20:10:47","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T01:10:47","slug":"high-noon-media-in-the-age-of-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/high-noon-media-in-the-age-of-trump\/","title":{"rendered":"High Noon: &#8220;Media in the Age of Trump&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s it like for a journalist covering national politics when President Donald Trump has called the media the \u201cenemy of the American people\u201d and Chief White House strategist Stephen Bannon has described the press as \u201cthe opposition party?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Taylor, a Furman alum and Lead Digital Political Reporter for National Public Radio, will talk about the role of the media and what life is like in Washington, D.C., these days when she speaks at the university\u2019s High Noon spring lecture series Wednesday, April 12.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_31445\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-31445\" class=\"wp-image-31445 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/jessica-taylor-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"427\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 320px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 320\/427;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-31445\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Jessica Taylor, a 2007 Furman graduate, is a journalist with NPR and is based in Washington, D.C.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cMedia in the Age of Trump\u201d begins at noon at the Upcountry History Museum-Furman.\u00a0 It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>This is the final lecture of the spring series.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor, a 2007 Furman graduate who majored in political science, is based in Washington, D.C., where she covers national politics and elections for NPR digital.\u00a0 Before joining NPR in May 2015, she was campaign editor for <em>The Hill<\/em> newspaper, where she oversaw the 2014 midterm coverage, managed a team of political reporters and wrote her own biweekly column.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to <em>The Hill<\/em>, Taylor was a writer and producer for MSNBC&#8217;s \u201cThe Daily Rundown with Chuck Todd\u201d and a contributor to the NBC News Political Unit.
