Photo by James Brosher\/Indiana University.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Craiutu has published extensively in the field of modern French political thought from Montesquieu to Raymond Aron. He received a bachelor\u2019s in economics from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Romania, and a master\u2019s and Ph.D. in political science from Princeton University.<\/p>\n<p>Craiutu\u2019s publications include <em>Liberalism under Siege: The Political Thought of the French Doctrinaires<\/em> (Rowman &amp; Littlefield, 2003), which won a 2004 CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title Award; <em>Tocqueville on America after 1840<\/em> (Cambridge, 2009; with Jeremy Jennings); <em>America through European Eyes<\/em> (Cambridge, 2009, with Jeffrey C. Isaac); <em>A Virtue for Courageous Minds: Moderation in French Political Thought, 1748-1830<\/em> (Princeton, 2012); and <em>Faces of Moderation: The Art of Balance in an Age of Extremes<\/em> (Penn Press, 2016); as well a newly revised English edition of Madame de Sta\u00ebl\u2019s <em>Considerations on the Principal Events of the French Revolution<\/em> (Liberty Fund, 2008).<\/p>\n<p>In 2000, he won the American Political Science Association&#8217;s Leo Strauss Award for the best doctoral dissertation in political theory.
