Her appointment begins March 1.<\/p>\n<p>Silver brings more than a decade of experience in higher education and nonprofit management to the role. After starting her career in corporate communications in Greenville, she transitioned to Clemson University, serving as a writer\/editor for University Advancement and Student Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>She also served as faculty at Clemson, teaching undergraduate communications and graduate student affairs, and at Tri-County Tech teaching English and writing. She was most<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30211\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30211\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30211 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/carolyn-silver-portrait-400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/600;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-30211\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carolyn Silver<\/p><\/div>\n<p>recently employed by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to design and manage a professional internship program available to the campus\u2019s 23,000 undergraduates. Her work at UNCC also included career counseling, teaching writing, and revamping the University Honors College first-year curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>After earning her Ph.D. at Clemson University in 2011, Silver worked with community leaders in Spartanburg to create a 501(c)(3) to increase educational attainment across the county. During that time she led efforts to raise $1 million, create connections among county public high schools and colleges, and institute the first annual Spartanburg College Fair.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout her career, Silver has remained active with leadership programs and student service organizations.
