Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students.<\/p>\n<p>The performance is conducted by director of bands Leslie W. Hicken, director of athletic bands Jay Bocook, and guest composer\/conductor Timothy Mahr who will present the Consortium World Premiere of his work \u201cSymphony No. 1.\u201d Other music includes \u201cMasque\u201d by Kenneth Hesketh, \u201cScotch Strathspey and Reel\u201d by Percy Aldridge Grainger, and \u201cArmenian Dances\u201d by Alfred Reed.<\/p>\n<p>An internationally acclaimed composer, Mahr received the 1991 Ostwald Award in the ABA Band Composition Contest for his composition \u201cThe Soaring Hawk.\u201d He was elected to the American Bandmasters Association in 1993. Formerly director of bands at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and founding conductor of the Twin Ports Wind Ensemble, Mahr is the principal conductor of the Minnesota Symphonic Winds and is active as a clinician and guest conductor nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Recent commissions have come from the United States Air Force Band, the Music Educators National Conference, and the American Bandmasters Association. Twenty-five of his works have been published, with many released on compact disc recordings and included on state contest lists.<\/p>\n<p>Mahr holds bachelor\u2019s degrees in composition and music education from St. Olaf College, a master\u2019s degree in trombone performance and a D.M.A. in instrumental conducting from the University of Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact the Furman Band Office at 864-294-3069, or the Furman Music Office at 864-294-2086.
